On July 8, 2025, the public consultation was launched for the 'Draft Technical Regulation for the Evaluation and Inclusion of Novel Foods for Human Consumption in Chile.

The present Draft Technical Regulation for the Evaluation and Inclusion of Novel Foods for Human Consumption in Chile (hereinafter the 'Draft Regulation') aims to standardize a procedure for the evaluation and inclusion of all 'novel foods, ingredients, and food substances.

What is meant by "novel foods, ingredients, and food substances"?

Article 106 of the Food Sanitary Regulation (RSA) defines them as those obtained “through physico-chemical synthesis processes, or through processes that occur in nature, which do not correspond to molecules or compounds with a history of safe human consumption.”
