Andreas Pierotic M.

Of Counsel

About

Andreas has been involved in economic and trade negotiations with Asia, particularly China, for twenty years. Chinese is his second language, having lived in that country for fourteen years. He worked nine years at DIRECON (now SUBREI) as part of the negotiating team for the FTA with China. Between 2014 and 2019 he was Minister Counselor and Commercial Attaché in Beijing. After his mission, he established the link between SINOVAC and the Millennium Institute of Immunology and Immunotherapy of the UC, which would lead to the first agreement for the provision of vaccines in South America for COVID-19.

During his mission in China, he focused his management on attracting investment and technological innovation, coinciding with the boom of Chinese assets in Chile, from approx. US$ 200 million in 2014 to US$ 8 billion in 2019. He promoted and participated in new negotiations to deepen the FTA with China (concluded in 2017), Chile's accession to the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) and Chile's entry into the Belt and Road Initiative. In the private sector, he has advised on corporate and regulatory matters to infrastructure, technology, agriculture, energy and mining companies.
