Environment
Our environmental practice is based on our experience providing comprehensive advice on large projects, such as mining, infrastructure and energy, among others. In addition, we have accumulated an outstanding track record in advising our clients on a wide range of issues related to environmental compliance and enforcement.
We provide comprehensive and strategic legal advice throughout the entire lifecycle of environmentally regulated projects—particularly in sectors such as infrastructure, energy, and mining—from early-stage permitting and environmental assessments to compliance, enforcement, and eventual project closure.
Our team assists clients with a broad spectrum of environmental matters, including Environmental Impact Assessments, water rights and sectorial permits, air emissions and waste management regulations, environmental liability, and stakeholder engagement strategies.
We also have extensive experience representing clients in environmental litigation, both administrative and judicial. Our advice is always tailored to the technical and regulatory complexities of each project, delivering legal solutions that add value at both the corporate and operational levels.
A distinctive strength of our practice is its close connection with public and administrative law. Since Chilean environmental law operates within an administrative legal framework, our in-depth understanding of public regulatory procedures is essential for designing effective strategies and ensuring regulatory compliance. We regularly support clients in proceedings before key environmental authorities, including the Environmental Assessment Service (SEA), the Superintendence of the Environment (SMA), and the Environmental Courts, as well as other competent regulatory bodies. Where applicable, we also assist in matters involving sectoral agencies such as the Water Authority (DGA), the National Geology and Mining Service (Sernageomin), the National Monuments Council (CMN), among others.
Our services range from guiding clients through environmental audits and sanctioning procedures to preparing administrative defenses and appeals.
Likewise, we adopt a proactive approach aimed at anticipating legal and regulatory risks, particularly in light of evolving standards in areas such as climate change, biodiversity protection, and circular economy frameworks. Whether collaborating in the development of new projects or defending our clients’ interests during regulatory proceedings, our goal is always to achieve sustainable and legally sound outcomes that ensure the viability of projects within an increasingly demanding environmental context.
